Point of Sale Display   24th August 2017 Feedback from Assignment 1     Before I get stuck into this exciting assignment I want to write about the feedback I got from my tutor on assignment 1. I took my feedback as all positive and I like the fact that I have someone to suggest how to hone my skills and improve them!    To start off I did in one of the exercises a bird on Photoshop and I'm not very skilled at computer art so it was great to have ago and experiment with this software. The feed back was great and here is what my tutor wrote to me: 'I would encourage you to continue experimenting, to try combining techniques, and broaden your understanding of illustration by continuing to look at other artists, which will help when illustrating different subjects or themes. Your E.H. Shepherd illustration has a vintage feel to it, and your use of digital techniques for the Patrick Hruby inspired illustration is fitting.' - Tutor     I feel that since she has g

Visual Metaphor   21st August 2017                  Reaching Retirement   Dreams if Romance   Broken Relationship                      Censorship of the Press   High Achievement   Economic Catastrophe   'Choose one of the phrases from above, create a drawn visual list of objects which could be used to symbolize them. Don't be overly concerned with the aesthetic quality or technical accuracy in the drawing. Make a Spider Diagram around the phrase to generate other words, which will bring other visual connotations.'             I started this exercise by doing some research on Visual Metaphors, I have dedicated a page in my sketchbook to the ones I found most interesting and liked the best: Sketchbook     I decided to go with Dreams of Romance, after I had made my decision I decided to do the Spider Diagram to generate ideas. Here it is below: Spider Diagram      After generating theses ideas I did little doodles of what I think

Exercise: Choosing Content

Choosing Content      For this exercise I had to read abit of passage from my folder that my university sent me. Then I had to make notes of curtain bits of the passage I had wrote here is what I wrote down: Notes      It says for this exercise to pick an adjective to work with I chose ' Dark ', I then has to collect reference materials for e.g. a moodboard relating to the word you chose and reference to the passage and collect materials for a moodboard. I also put into the moodboard what police officers used to look like back in the 1940's as reference to how I want the character to be.     Below is my moodboard on reference to the word I chose and how I see the character in the passage: Character Moodboard      Before I did my material moodboard I did a spider gram to help me generate some ideas for textures and materials that I could use for this particular piece of work: Texture and Colours Spider Gram      Next I did a moodboard using the type

Using Black and White   14th August 2017 Sea   Extraordinary   Building   Journey 'Through brainstorming you may decided to draw from an object or a section of objects or work in a more narrative way around a scene or idea. Ensure that the line visual you produce through visual exploration and development is clear.'    For this exercise we had to create a drawing in Black and white from one of the words above, I chose Sea it instantly jumped out at me.     First I decided to do a Spider Gram of the word Sea to see what I could come up with, see below:  Spider Gram      After doing this Spider Gram I decided to concentrate on Waves, I decided this because I love the photography and how they look, waves are elegant in there own way. So I started like the brief said by drawing my image onto paper with fine liner, I chose to work in A4 for this brief because its very difficult to scan A3 paper when you only have an A4 scanner. I also decided to use Phot

Using  a pencil or a fine liner do an objective drawing on an a A4 sheet. You are trying to achieve a drawing that has a high degree of visually accuracy.'     So this brief is pretty simple, I picked from the list above the word Shoe. So I decided to draw one of my own shoes for this briefing here it is below:  Drawing     I chose to use pencil for this drawing and tried to put as much detail as I could into the drawing, I found that with the shoe being mostly black it was hard to show the detail in the main shoe but I tried to counter act that with the details in other parts of the shoes like the laces and the soles.  A Subjective Drawing    ' Take another object and write a list of a series of words to describe it. Choose one of the words from the li

Include rough textures, sugar paper and heavy water coloured paper, smooth and shiny surfaces, brown paper and cheap typing paper. Include the cheap throw away such as children's felt tip pens, food dyes, ballpoint pens, chalks, oil pastels, explore uncharted territories.'  'Choose something like a cake with icing, cherries, hundreds and thousands or other toppings; a shoe or trainer; a piece of fruit with a bite taken out of it.'      As above mention they want us to create and explore mixed media, so I collected different pieces of paper, tin foil and other material that I had available to me. I chose for this exercise to draw Ice Cream on a cone. Here are the results that I came out with:  Sharpie and Tin Foil Grey Pencil and Tracing Paper Chalk and Black Card   Pen and Magazine   Card and Sharpie
